Evaluation 1

The genre of our film is Thriller, as we wanted to create a product that was tense and gave an air of mystery. The storyline has a sense of ambiguity, for example, Lucy waking up in a forest, which leaves to the
imagination how she got there. A similar film is Maze Runner, as Thomas wakes up in The Glade with no memory of what happened before. Jump cuts are used to get closer to Lucy, which creates tension straight away. This, coupled with the non-diegetic music adds a sense of forboding. A high angle shot is used of Lucy laid on the forrest floor, which highlights her vulnribility. Our film conforms to genre stereotypes by using scenes of normal, everyday life to start the film, with Lucy making a hot drink. This lulls the audience into a false sense of security before the climax of the film.

A forest is a stereotypical setting for a Thriller, as it has negative connotations, and is often portrayed in a spooky way. Our film also has aspects of Horror, such as the creepy hooded figure, and in the questionnaire many people believed our film to be of the horror genre.

The film has a ring narrative, as Lucy wakes up and realises everything in the woods was just a dream. This breaks genre conventions, as Thrillers usually have a linear narrative, with a task to be completed within a certain timeframe. We broke this convention to give a fresh approach to a Thriller. The film also has a restricted narrative, as the audience only knows what the main character Lucy knows, which is popular in Thrillers.
