Spectre(2015) - Action, adventure thriller starring Daniel Craig. It was rated 12A by the BBFC, and voted 7.2 stars out of 10. In reviews many people commented on the ‘exhilerating cinematography’ however others reported ‘poor scripting’. This film was greatly anticipated due to impressive previous films, and grossed £6.3 million in the opening day alone.
The opening of the film is tense and fast paced with James Bond in Mexico at a festival. This is similar to our film as the main character finds themself in an unfamiliar place and decides to explore. Immeadiatly the audience is aware that James Bond is in danger and are excited to see what happens next. This is similar to our film as we want to create a sense of unease from the outset to make our film more thrilling. The film shows Bond go on a mission to fight the evil group 'spectre', unravelling clues about the organisation and cheating death along the way. This is a stereotypical storyline for a thriller film as it gives plenty of oppertunities for tension to be created. Thriller films often end on a cliffhanger to lead onto another film or leave the audience wondering. For this reason we have considered ending our film on a cliff hanger.

The Maze Runner(2014) - Sci-fi thriller starring Dylan O'Brien. It was realeased in October 2014 and rated 12A. This was the first film in the franchise, following a series of successful novels and was rated 6.8 stars out of 10. It is a 20th Century Fox production and featured at the MTV movie awards. Many reviews comment on the 'beauty of the simplicity' of this film.
The film begins with Thomas, played by Dylan O'Brien, waking up inside a lift cage. Like Spectre, the main character finds themselves in a unfamiliar place. Thomas gets out of the lift and enters The Glade, a small area of grass and trees where other teenagers are living. The audience is told that they all arrived there in the lift cage and can't remeber anything before that. This creates intrigue and mystery. The Maze is then introduced, which gives Thomas his challenge. This is a traditional feature of a thriller as the hero of the film usually has a task to complete. Thomas becomes a 'runner' and must explore the maze, making sure to leave the maze before the sun sets to avoid the creatures that reside in the maze at night. This creates tension as the audience knows the risks he is taking, and wonders whether they will ever escape. This would be a good feature to use in our film to make it more thrilling. We want to audience to wonder whether the main character will ever get home/to safety.
